CSR Project – Swacch Abhiyan

Friday, November 10, 2017

It was a very happy occasion for RCMM to witness the inauguration ceremony, on Nov 10, 2017 of the newly constructed toilet block for the  Zilla Parishad School at Kotbi,  Bujadpada, Dahanu. The school caters to around 300 students, out of which 40% are girl students.  Lack of basic facilities like a toilet block resulted in heavy dropouts especially from girl students. This facility will go a long way in improving attendance, ensuring children gain basic education. The facility consists of 12 toilets (5 for boys and 7 for girls), with proper wash basins at two levels to cater to students from various ages. The structure stands out as a modern, well designed facility with proper doors, marble partitions, windows and sloped drainage around the facility. Continuous water supply is ensured by having adequate overhead storage. This project is well aligned to our PM’s programme ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to bring cleanliness and sanitation to all.
Rtn. Prakash Samudra, CEO of TKIS and a staunch Rotarian of our club, inaugurated the facility. Special thanks to the benevolent spirit of Rtn. Prakash who has supported many of our CSR Proposals a reality. Senior officials from the Zilla Parishad profusely thanked ThyssenKrupp and RCMM for their vision and dedication to bring such facilities to a remote tribal area. They also informed that much more needs to be done in these areas. ThyssenKrupp was well represented with their implementation team along with three board members. The entire proceedings  were  conducted in a simple and elegant manner  and the most satisfying moment was when the teachers and students pledged that they will maintain the facility  really well, year after year to ensure that generations of students will benefit.
The  initiative started a year and half ago when Rtns. Suryakumar and Dhananjay visited Dahanu to inaugurate a toilet block at a nearby school as part of our matching grant project. The present school teachers informed us of the dire need for such facilities and we had assured them that we will explore avenues to meet their requirements .We had on that occasion donated 10 bicycles to the children to ease their travel to the school. The to and fro journey is plus 5kms. It was truly a humbling moment for RCMM that we could convert our promise into a reality. We also got good assistance from the Rotary club of  Dahanu ( Rtn.Pathak).
Corporate CSR funding has given RCMM a unique opportunity to contribute to the community on a scale and reach to wider section of society. Our projects in the Health and Education sectors over the last three years have made a lasting difference in the lives of the needy. In essence RCMM members are getting a chance to live up to the Rotary motto of Service. With the time we have honed our skills in identifying right projects in line with corporate thrust areas which qualify for CSR grants. For every project proposal  adequate documentation is prepared resulting into success stories.  This motivates us to do even better.
The trip to Dahanu was also fun filled. Service with fun is what makes life in Rotary so enjoyable. Rotary making a difference.
