Divine Gift of Vision - CSR Project

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

For last few years RCMM is associated with Tata Memorial Hospital and with the help of ThyssenKrupp CSR funding we are able to fulfill their requirements.
Retinoblastoma is a cancer that starts in the retina, the very back part of the eye. It is the most common type of eye cancer in children age group of infancy to 5 years old and  mainly belonging to financially weaker sections of society.  In earlier days only solution was to remove the eye. Now a days with advanced technology it can be cured by using specialized catheters to reach the tumor and chemotherapy dosage can be administered. This kind of procedure is done only at Tata Memorial Hospital in India. The success  rate for children with this modern technique is more than 80%. But these catheters are costly and beyond the reach of poor families.
Under the CSR scheme of the  corporate,  ThyssenKrupp with support from RC of  Mumbai Mahim, 25 sets of Neuro Vascular Catheters worth Rs 13 lakhs donated to Tata Memorial Hospital. Handing over ceremony was organized on 3rdof July, 2019. It was very much heartening to know Tata Doctors are putting in their best of efforts, almost working round the clock to help the patients and these catheters have helped in getting vision to normal. Many Rotarians attended the function and felt very proud that we are able to bring in light in the life of these children.
