Thursday, August 15, 2013

15 August 2013 was another red letter day in the history of Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim.  We inaugurated Stitching Classes at Village Shisne as part of our implementation program of Global Grant Project No. 26168.  Chairman of Global Grant Project PP Rtn Pradeep Dixit, President Rtn. S. Venkateswaran, Vice President Rtn Usha Seshan and Project Director Rtn Sunita Padwal attended the function which also included a flag hoisting ceremony as part of Independence Day Celebration.

All the 380 students from the village school had lined up in an orderly manner. Indian National Flag was unfurled by Principal of the School followed by singing of National Anthem and few patriotic songs. This was followed by a series of talks by young and vibrant children on various topics like – ‘If I was elected as MLA’, Cleanliness, Environment, Indian Culture etc. The gathering was later addressed by Rtn Sunita, Rtn Pradeep Dixit, Rtn Usha and Rtn S. Venkateswaran (SV).

Finally a new sewing machine was inaugurated after traditional ‘puja’ by breaking coconut by Rtn Sunita and Rtn Pradeep. All the 21 women registered for stitching classes, were then given the sewing kits consisting of 10 items including scissors, needles, tape etc.

A high powered solar light was installed on the roof top of the school building which was used to light six lamps in the hall bringing brightness and cheer to everyone.
